About Us

With numerous NGOs’ advocacy, the Welfare Law for Handicapped Person was enacted in 1980. However, despite such achievement, the law had been very poorly implemented. In light of this, in 1989, Ms. Liu Xia called for more than 70 NGOs working for persons with disabilities around Taiwan to initiate the Advocacy Committee on the Amendment of Welfare Law for Handicapped Person, which later became “The League for Persons With Disabilities, R.O.C” (Taiwan) in 1990. From the beginnings and to so far, we league have focused on fighting for the rights of persons with disabilities and urging the government to stipulate a more comprehensive disabilities policies with stakeholders in Taiwan.

 

Being the first alliance organization in Taiwan, we aim at to protect and advocate the rights of people with disabilities , and regards policy and regulation analysis, research in disabilities-related issues and so on as the main missions.

 

Missions and Goals

  • To Reinforce the cooperation and networking with DPOs and CSOs both internals and internationals.
  • Lobbying to legislate or amend laws , regulations and policies for persons with disabilities.
  • To promote measures regarding the rights of persons with disabilities, including accessibility to education, healthcare, economic security, support system, employment, and universal design environment, etc.
  • Surveillance the implementations of CRPD and its state report.
  • To ensure the long-term care system in Taiwan can support the persons with disabilities and their families sufficient service and have quality of life.
  • To urge the government to integrate and modify related regulations pertaining to National Pension Insurance and disability employment services to complete a fair and equal economic security mechanism.
  • To enhance universal design and accessibility for information, environment, equipment , transportation, etc. to persons with disabilities for taking part on an equal basis to social involvements.
  • Focus on improving the overall condition of intersectionalities, especially in children, women and different genders with disabilities.
